Troubleshooting Guide for Pneumatic Diaphragm Pump Stoppage: Air Supply, Sealing, and Flow Path Checks

If the pneumatic diaphragm pump stops and does not operate, frontline maintenance can be performed using a simple three-step check: air supply, air valve exhaust, and fluid piping. Be sure to close the inlet air valve and release pressure before operation. If the pump is delivering corrosive acid/alkali liquids, flush the pump body interior with water first to avoid splash injuries when disassembling the pump.
Vacuum piping seal inspection (a common failure point)
The diaphragm pump relies on negative pressure for suction. During the suction phase, the feed line forms a negative pressure vacuum zone, and any air leak will directly cause suction failure. Focus on checking the feed piping, joints, and sealing gaskets for aging or loosening, especially hidden leaks in bends or convoluted pipe sections. Also ensure that the feed pipe inlet is fully submerged in the material to avoid air suction and idling.
Air supply condition calibration
Unstable air supply pressure, or air containing water or oil, can lead to insufficient diaphragm stroke and failure to establish effective negative pressure. On-site, simply adjust to the standard working air pressure, regularly drain accumulated water from the air supply, clean filter impurities, and keep the supply air clean and stable.
Piping resistance and operating condition check
Clogged strainers, crushed piping, excessive bends, or exceeding the delivery head rating all increase conveying resistance and offset the pump's self-priming capability. Routinely clean strainers, organize piping layout, and strictly operate within the equipment's rated parameters.
Inspection of internal wear parts
Finally, suction issues may also result from wear of internal components. Worn diaphragms, ball valves, or valve seats with poor sealing can cause medium backflow. If the equipment shows weak pulsation or material backflow after shutdown, replace with original sealing parts promptly.、
